Reading Information Evening 2014

It was wonderful to see 139 parents and carers at this year’s parents’ information evening on reading.  Gossops Green was delighted to welcome Peter Campbell, Advisory Teacher for English to open the event.  His talk focused strongly on the importance of making reading FUN and on valuing all types of reading including comics, newspapers and magazines.  Parents shared their own memories of being read to as a child and of traditional oral storytelling.  Many still treasure those texts and those precious moments and were encouraged to create similar memories for their own children.

Each year team had set up information stands showcasing some of the different strategies that are used in school to support reading and also providing ideas for parents to use at home.  Parents left inspired by the event and several commented that those who hadn’t managed to make it had missed out.  We hope you enjoy looking at the photo gallery, which gives a flavour of the evening.
